In the area of ​​business, it’s known as networking. Today we’ll see what it is and how it influences success in crowdfunding.

What is networking?

First of all, we have to explain what networking is. According to the finance-oriented website Investopedia,  it’s “a process that fosters the exchange of information and ideas among individuals or groups that share a common interest.” Adding that it can be for social or commercial purposes.

Likewise, it explains that “professionals connect their business network through a series of symbolic ties and contacts.” And that these connections between professionals can happen due to an individual’s education, employer, industry or colleagues. Namely, said individual can meet key professionals at work, the university, among friends, etc.

In short, a good summary is that of Business Dictionary. Which defines “networking” as “creating a group of acquaintances and associates and keeping it active through regular communication for mutual benefit.” It also mentions that connections made through networking are based on the question: “How can I help?” and not with “What can I get?”

After understanding what networking is all about, one might ask, how does this influence the success of a crowdfunding campaign? The answer should be quite clear. Carrying out a crowdfunding campaign also means creating a network of people with whom you have mutual interests and who can give each other a reciprocal collaboration.

Networking as a tool in crowdfunding

In fact, networking is not something exclusive to the business world. In other spheres of life it can also be applied to achieve various objectives and goals. Of course, crowdfunding is no exception. Actually, much of its success involves applying it before, during and after a campaign.

In a past entry we mentioned several entrepreneurs who achieved success in crowdfunding. Many of them stressed the need to create a network of people through various means. Not only through social networks, marketing and a community in general. But also by contacting people from your own network of acquaintances.

Of course, as we said before, this isn’t limited to family and friends. Which are key contributors but don’t constitute 100% of them. Through networking, you must learn to locate all kinds of people that are of benefit to your campaign. Or key people that you can approach individually to request their collaboration.
